About

about us

— exceptional architecture emerges when dedicated, creative, thoughtful individuals come together as a team. Allow us to introduce ours...

Our methodology involves a rigor that responds to the desires of the client, to the character of the institution, and to the means with which to build. We explore alternative solutions as a way of uncovering possibilities and eliminating problems. The firm's work ranges greatly in scale and program. In each case we believe responsible and exceptional architecture comes from the search for the solutions that respond to the particular circumstances inherent in each situation. We are interested in the particularities of the place whether natural or man-made, in the emotive qualities of materials and details, and in the possibilities for a human and pleasurable experience for the user.

We enjoy the challenge that comes from the variety of projects we undertake. It keeps us fresh as we strive for design excellence that involves the clients, the users, and our consultants. Responsible design, for us, must include the use of available resources, appropriate understanding and employment of sustainable practices, and resolution of programs within schedules, budgets, and requirements.

Roger Cannon, FAIA and Susan Cole Cannon, FAIA have a combined experience of over 56 years in the field of architecture, and together represent a wide range of design projects and completed buildings over a 30 year period. Many of these projects have been honored with state and regional design awards, and have been recognized in national and regional publications.

After many years of experience as designers with large firms, the principals saw the need to structure an architectural firm in which the principles of the firm had full participation through all phases of the design and construction process. In 1995, they formed Cannon Architects upon a strong commitment to design and professional service. This commitment to client services, from programming and preliminary design, through construction and ultimately move in, is a commitment to thoroughly understanding the project and the client's needs.

In 2007, Cannon Architects became incorporated as a woman owned business. The firm now consists of three registered architects and a talented staff of young designers who bring technical expertise, versatility with means of representation, and strong design skills to each project. This talent and versatility combined with the experience of the principals creates a solid foundation for good design.

ANGELINA RAMIREZ, AIA Associate

  • Angelina was born and raised on Long Island, New York. Home, to her, is being surrounded by an abundance of family, friends and food on a Sunday afternoon.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Environmental Science in Architecture from NC State University, she is continuing her studies there and will graduate with a Master of Architecture in the Spring. Angelina’s work has been recognized through multiple nominations for AIA Triangle Scholarships.

Contrary to her loud and charmingly chaotic household, Angelina has always spent her alone time drawing and painting. She finds a great deal of interest in detail – and how an architectural logic or theme can come alive through paying attention to the smaller things.

The first time that she visited her family’s hometown in Italy was with her mom, who she also considers a friend and an inspiration. They spent a weekend in Rome, skipping down the streets and jumping between churches. This trip was one of the first times that Angelina recalls being truly moved by architecture.

Angelina enjoys feeling grounded and deeply connected to nature. She finds inspiration through the textures, colors and smells of the outdoors. She is driven to create architecture that is enriched by, and embedded in the natural environment.

JESSE WILSON, AIA Associate

  • Jesse was born and raised in Currituck, along the Inner Banks of North Carolina, before heading west to complete her B.S. in Building Science with a concentration in Architecture at App State. After graduating, Jesse went on to complete her Master of Architecture at NCSU with a certificate in Energy and Technology. As a Kamphoefner Honor Fellowship Nominee, her work was also recognized through multiple AIA Aspire and AIA Triangle Scholarship nominations. Upon graduation, she was awarded the 2025 School of Architecture Design Achievement Award.

Jesse’s passion for design is inspired by the belief that architecture can heighten emotional awareness, enrich sensory experiences, and strengthen our connection to place. Her work is guided by a commitment to reclaiming places as inclusive spaces that foster belonging and meaningful interaction for all people.
